Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are a Belgian-Greek DJ duo. They consist of the brothers Dimitri Thivaios and Michael Thivaios. The duo was number 1 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list in 2015 and 2019 and ranked second in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2023.

They have performed at many festivals worldwide, such as EXIT Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, Electric Zoo, Parookaville, UNTOLD Festival, Creamfields and Tomorrowland. They have been the official resident DJs at the Tomorrowland Festival since 2010. They have had summer DJ residencies at Amnesia in Ibiza (2014-2016) and more recently at Ushuaïa Ibiza (2017 to date).

They also run the record label Smash the House, which was founded in 2010. They have worked with artists such as Afrojack, Armin van BuurenDaddy Yankee, David GuettaEra Istrefi, Fatboy SlimGucci Mane, Hardwell, Martin GarrixParis Hilton, Steve Angello, Sebastian Yatra and Kid Ink. They have also supported artists such as Lady Gaga, the Chainsmokers and (G)I-dle. Dimitri Vegas also founded the Dino Warriors project in 2020.

Career

Dimitri Vegas (Dimitri Thivaios) was born on May 16, 1982 and Like Mike (Michael Thivaios) was born on December 3, 1985. Both grew up in Belgium. The brothers grew up in the Flemish municipality of Willebroek. They started their career as DJs at a young age. They quickly began performing in small clubs and were resident DJs at BeatFM radio. Dimitri left Belgium in 1999 and began touring Europe. He lived in Mallorca and later in Chalkidiki, Greece, before moving to Ibiza in 2003. There he performed in big clubs like Privilege and Space.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike released their first single “Liquid Skies” in 2009 under the pseudonym DNM. After founding their own label Smash the House in 2010, they were commissioned to write the official anthem of Tomorrowland 2010: “Tomorrow (Give in to the Night)”. [6] The song was their first top 20 hit and reached number 16 in Belgium. The duo wrote the Tomorrowland anthems until the 2014 edition, including the 2013 anthem “Chattahoochee”, which reached number 2 in the Belgian charts. 2014 also saw the release of “Tremor” with Dutch DJ Martin Garrix, which was voted best song by Billboard in 2018.

In May 2015, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike landed their first number one hit in Belgium: “The Hum” with Dutch DJ Ummet Ozcan. The official music video for the song starred Charlie Sheen and Jean-Claude Van Damme. “The Hum” was soon followed by the release of “Higher Place” (featuring Ne-Yo), which also reached number 1 in Belgium, with both songs going platinum in the duo’s home country. At the 2015 Amsterdam Dance Event, the duo became the first Belgians to be voted number one DJs worldwide by DJ Magazine. 2016 saw the release of “Hey Baby”, the group’s third number one and platinum single, with which they reached second place in the DJ Mags Top 100 behind Martin Garrix.

In 2017, they released their platinum single “Complicated”, which was certified in both Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as their long-awaited festival gimmick “Crowd Control”. In the same year, they also released a version of “He’s a Pirate” with Hans Zimmer for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The duo debuted at Tomorrowland with their “Garden of Madness” stage, which has been a permanent fixture at the event ever since.

On June 22, 2018, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike released the single “When I Grow Up” together with American rapper Wiz Khalifa. The music video for “When I Grow Up” was shot by Belgian directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who had recently cast Dimitri & Mike for an acting role in their Belgian film Gangsta. On September 28, the duo released the song “Bounce” with the Bassjackers, Julian Banks and Snoop Dogg.

On February 15, 2019, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Era Istrefi released “Selfish”, which reached number 1 on the Billboard Dance Charts. On May 10, 2019, Dimitri & Mike released their song “Best Friends Ass” together with Paris Hilton. The music video for the single featured numerous well-known personalities, including YouTubers Nikita Dragun, Vitaly Zdorovetskiy and Juanpa Zurita, singer-songwriter Chester Lockhart, former UFC fighter Chuck Liddell and Kim Kardashian.

Later in 2019, they achieved their first 2× platinum single with “Instagram”, a collaboration with David Guetta, Daddy Yankee, Afro Bros and Natti Natasha. Also, after three years in second place, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike reclaimed their place as the number 1 DJs worldwide in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll. The brothers ended the decade with a collaboration with Sebastian Yatra, Afro Bros, Camilo and Emilia on “Boomshakalaka”.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike – Tomorrowland 2019

On July 24, 2020, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike released a dance cover of Destiny’s Child “Say My Name” together with DJ Regard. The following day, the duo played the closing set of the first virtual Tomorrowland festival. The event, called “Tomorrowland Around the World”, took place on 25 and 26 July as a replacement for the regular festival, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On February 5, 2021, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike released a remix of “Hwaa” by (G)I-dle, a South Korean Kpop girl group.

In August 2021, the duo collaborated with the mobile battle royale game “Garena Free Fire” and released playable characters based on the duo in the game, the official announcement was made on August 4, 2021 via Garena Free Fire’s official social media channels. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike had already released a track for Garena Free Fire’s in-game event “Rampage” in July 2021. On August 20, 2021, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike released a collaboration song together with Alok and KSHMR for Garena Free Fire’s 4th birthday.

On March 3, 2023, the duo released their second collaboration with Ne-Yo, “Mexico”, together with Mexican singer Danna Paola. In July 2023, the duo announced the upcoming release of their first studio album Rewind + Repeat, which will include the single “She Knows” featuring David Guetta, Afro Bros and Akon. On December 1, 2023, the duo released the highly anticipated single Thank You (Not So Bad), a remake of the song Thank You, in collaboration with Tiesto, W&W and Dido.

Further projects

3 Are Legend is a supergroup made up of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and the American DJ Steve Aoki. The trio has performed together at various music festivals such as Tomorrowland, Creamfields, Ultra Music Festival and Untold. At Ultra Music Festival 2014, they performed officially for the first time under the pseudonym 3 Are Legend.
