Philipp Poisel

Inhaltsverzeichnis

Philipp Poisel, born on July 18, 1983 in the Swabian town of Ludwigsburg, is a singer-songwriter. Philipp with the French-sounding surname (“Poasell”) actually wants to become a secondary school teacher for music, art and English. In retrospect, there is a certain irony in the fact that this plan failed due to his lack of grades and that he did not pass the entrance exam to become a music teacher.

Finally, the Stuttgart-based singer/songwriter makes the leap into the music business without an academic degree. In January 2008, he signed a record deal with Herbert Grönemeyer’s label Grönland.

His debut album “Wo Fängt Dein Himmel An?” will be released in August 2008, before which he will play concerts as the supporting act for Ane Brun, Grönemeyer, Maria Mena, Suzanne Vega and Hubert Von Goisern.

The label boss, who is very close to Poisel musically, is convinced of the qualities of the poet and guitarist and his sensitive, German-language lyrics: “Philipp Poisel sings with all his heart, has a very special, very unique, assertive voice and sings about life in the tradition of the traveling troubadours. His songs grow with every listen and develop a warming, soothing pull”.

Philipp finds his musical inspiration on the street. Everyday life and interpersonal relationships, which he scrutinizes with fine powers of observation, provide his stories.

Philipp tested himself as a songwriter on various trips through Europe, earning most of his living by singing and playing guitar. “The people you meet react very openly to someone who makes music,” he remarks, even if stays in Lithuania or Sweden are certainly associated with hardships.

“Actually, you always get into trouble if you don’t stay with someone and try to find a place to sleep outside. If you spend your nights in the city, you can’t sleep a wink and you get more and more nervous every day, but you still have to play so you can buy something to eat.”

The plan to record a complete album began to take shape when Pilipp Poisel met his future producer Frank Pilsl by chance in a Stuttgart café in the summer of 2006. Demo material was quickly recorded, which was well received by several major record companies. However, a collaboration fails due to the different musical ideas of the artist and the label managers.

Convinced that he was hitting the right note with his music and unwilling to compromise, Philipp founded his own label, Holunder-Records, to enable the release of his debut.

Philipp Poisel comes to the attention of Grönland Records. A concert in November 2007 paves the way for a collaboration. Poisel releases his first album in 2008. It reaches number 38 in the album charts. He then goes on tour with the band through German-speaking countries.

Back at home, he worked directly on his second album, which was released in August 2010. It is a success and reaches number eight in the charts. In November 2011, he goes gold for selling 100,000 units. In the same year, he sings the song “Eiserner Steg” for the film “What A Man” by Matthias Schweighöfer. This is his most successful single to date.

The song was released as a single and reached number 21, which was Poisel’s highest position in the German singles charts to date. After Eiserner Steg was sung in the singing casting show The Voice of Germany at the beginning of January 2012, the song rose from number 100 to number four in the German singles charts in mid-January 2012. In August 2012, Poisel released a live album with 19 songs that he re-recorded with strings and piano. The album went straight to number one in the German album charts.

The single “Wolke 7” was released in August 2012. Poisel recorded it together with Max Herre together. The single was in the top ten of the German singles charts for five weeks. Poisel’s song “Wie soll ein Mensch das ertragen?” rose from number 59 to number 5 in the German singles charts. Jean-Michel Aweh had sung the song in the casting show “Das Supertalent”. It was Poisel’s third top ten hit in Germany within a year. The single also reached the top ten in Austria after Aweh’s performance.

Concert tickets have also long been a top seller for Philipp Poisel. The “Bis Nach Toulouse” tour in 2011 is largely sold out and the promoter has already announced ten additional concerts for “Projekt Seerosenteich 2012” months in advance.

With his passionate, thoroughly honest stage presence and a perfectly rehearsed band behind him, the Swabian enjoys a very good reputation as a live act. As a successful singer/songwriter, he can finally forget the teaching profession he once aspired to.

Poisel took plenty of time for each of his subsequent studio albums: “Mein Amerika”, recorded in Nashville, was released in 2017 and felt like a tutoring session for Bendzko, Bourani, Giesinger and co. Poisel released four more new songs on the EP “Freunde” in August 2019.

His fourth studio album will follow in 2021: on “Neon”, the Ludwigsburg native returns to everyday life. Three years later, “Neon Acoustic Orchestra” follows as an acoustic live version of the record, which was created in April of the previous year under the direction of producer Frank Pilsl at Motorworld Metzingen.

In 2024, Philipp Poisel was a guest on the program “The Giovanni Zarrella Show”hosted by Giovanni Zarrella was hosted by Giovanni Zarrella.
