Mieze Katz, born on May 4, 1979 in East Berlin under the real name Maria Mummert, is a German singer and frontwoman of the Berlin electropop band MIA.

In 1997, Mieze Katz founded a school band together with guitarist Andi Ross (later Andy Penn), a fellow pupil at the John Lennon High School in Berlin. Through their mutual friend Sarah Kuttner, they found further members in Robert Schütze (bass) and Ingo Puls (keyboards). Together with drummer Hannes Schulze, they finally formed the band, which, after several name changes, took on its current name MIA – derived from the band’s previous name Me In Affairs.

In addition to her work with MIA, Mieze Katz is involved in various musical and artistic projects. She has worked with artists such as Virginia Jetzt!, Eizi Eiz, Melbeatz, Flexevil, Fettes Brot, Oliver Koletzki and Nhoah and has contributed her voice to various songs. She sang the theme song for the German dubbed version of the animated series Ruby Gloom. She can also be seen in the Scala & Kolacny Brothers music video for their cover of Hungriges Herz (original by MIA.) alongside Andy Penn.

In addition to music, Mieze Katz is also active in other artistic fields. Together with Nikolai Kinski, she read Peter Handke’s text Selbstbezichtigung as an audio book. For Jens Hasselmann’s play verDÜNNisiert, she spoke the voice of “Freundin Mieze”, who deals with the subject of eating disorders. She also appeared as a model in the 2008 calendar of eyewear designer Humphrey’s.

In the eleventh season of “DSDS – Deutschland sucht den Superstar” Mieze Katz sat next to Dieter Bohlen, Marianne Rosenberg and Kay One on the jury.

Mieze Katz also proved her versatility on television. In 2013, she was godmother to the winner Lina Larissa Strahl in the KiKA casting show Dein Song. From 2014 to 2017, she was part of the show’s permanent team of judges and returned to the show in 2019.

In 2023, Mieze Katz took part in the ninth season of the ProSieben show The Masked Singer took part. As a masked “troll”, she made it to the final and came fourth.

In 2024, Mieze Katze published the title “HellSehen” with Eva Briegel and the title “for or against” with Wilhelmine.

Mieze Katz was a guest at “Sing meinen Song – the swap concert“, where he was joined by Bojan Kalajdzic (ClockClock), FinchBosse, The Fantastic Four, Madeline Juno, Michael Patrick Kelly and Johannes Oerding were guests.
