Beginner

The Beginners (known as the Absolute Beginners until 2003) are a hip-hop-group from the Hamburg district of Eimsbüttel, consisting of Jan Eißfeldt (alias Eizi Eiz or Jan Delay or Eißfeldt), Dennis Lisk (alias Denyo) and Guido Weiß (alias DJ Mad).

Career

When the band was founded in 1991, it consisted of four other members (DJ Burn, Nabil Sheikh, Mirko and Platin Martin) and produced English rap under the name Absolute Beginners. rap. They later switched to German and changed their band name to Absolute Beginner. In 1994, they released their first record with socially critical lyrics, the EP Gotting. On their debut album Flashnizm, there were only four of them (Eizi Eiz, Denyo, DJ Mad and Mardin). Mardin left the band when the Absoluten Beginner were signed by the major label Universal/Motor. Their commercial breakthrough came in 1998 with the album Bambule. The first singles from it were Rock on, Füchse feat. Samy DeluxeHammerhart, Nie nett feat. Das Bo and Ferris MC and Liebeslied. Bambule sold over 250,000 copies and was certified gold in 2000. Since 2003, they have simply called themselves Beginner. They actually wanted to release the Bambule LP under this name to show that the band was no longer the same without Platinum Martin. However, under pressure from the record company, they had to keep the name Absolute Beginner, as they had already achieved a certain level of fame. It wasn’t until their next album in 2003 that they were so well known that they were able to get their record company to change their name without any problems.

At the beginning of December 2004, the band DVD “Die derbste Band der Welt” was released, which contains music videos, a documentary about the Beginners and concert recordings. In the same year, the album The Early Years 1992-1994 (Wir waren jung und brauchten kein Geld) was released with early recordings, including the Gotting EP. The Beginner’s music is characterized above all by partly humorous, partly political lyrics and sophisticated rhythms. Matthias Arfmann is the producer of all albums and a key element of the Beginner. He is not a member of the Beginners, but is mentioned in the same breath as the three Beginner members in the chorus of Hammerhart, for example.

In August 2010, Dennis Lisk announced for the first time in a television interview that another album was planned, but that it would not be released before 2012. This statement was confirmed by Jan Phillip Eißfeldt in 2011. Guido Weiß (DJ Mad) also confirmed in an interview at the end of January 2011 that they were working on a new album. On September 10, 2011, they celebrated their live comeback at the Berlin Festival. However, the unofficial comeback after more than 7 years away from the stage already took place on September 9, 2011 as part of the “Catch a fire” concert series in Ulm. However, as the only Beginner concert of 2011 was to take place at the Berlin Festival, the Beginners were announced in Ulm as “Eizi Eiz, Denyo and DJ Mad”.

In 2016, the Beginners brought their rap talent to Ina Müller’s Hamburg TV show “Ina’s Night” . In May 2016, Eißfeldt announced on Twitter that the album planned for August 2016 would be called Advanced Chemistry, in reference to the name of the Heidelberg hip-hop group Advanced Chemistry. On June 3, the Beginner released the video for Ahnma, their first single from the new album, followed by the second video “Es war einmal…” on August 12. The album was finally released on August 26. The 2016/2017 tour was accompanied and opened by German hip-hop pioneer Torch from the Heidelberg band Advanced Chemistry.
