Inhaltsverzeichnis

Peter Fox, born on September 3, 1971 in West Berlin under the real name Pierre Baigorry, is a well-known artist in the German music scene. He is best known as one of the frontmen of the successful reggae/dancehall band Seeed.

Early life and education

Peter Fox was born in Berlin-Schönow, a district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf. He is the son of a German teacher of Polish descent and a French Basque woman from Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry. His musical talent was evident from an early age: as a child, he began playing the piano and played in the Schönow trombone choir. He later founded several school bands. He completed his Abitur at the Goethe-Gymnasium in Berlin-Lichterfelde and attended the French Gymnasium in Tiergarten in the meantime.

After leaving school, Fox began an apprenticeship as a piano maker with the C. Bechstein company, which he abandoned. He then worked in various Berlin record stores and as a DJ. After his musical projects in the 1990s did not bring the success he had hoped for, Fox decided to study special education and English language and literature in 1997.

Seeed and first successes

Peter Fox has been active as one of the frontmen of the Berlin reggae and dancehall band Seeed since 1998. In this role, he played a key role in shaping the sound and lyrics of the band, which enjoyed great success in the 2000s. His stage name “Foxy” is derived from his nickname, which was given to him by the Jamaican MC Black Kappa. Black Kappa, who was on tour with Seeed in 2000/01, gave him the name because of his red hair. In 2001, the musician was diagnosed with a viral infection, the symptoms of which were initially not interpreted correctly. This ultimately led to facial paralysis, which still persists today.

Solo project “Stadtaffe”

In 2008, Peter Fox decided to embark on a solo project and released his debut album Stadtaffe. The album, which featured the Babelsberg Film Orchestra and two drummers, reached number 1 in the German album charts in February 2009. Originally, the US singer CeeLo Green was supposed to sing the songs, but due to Green’s involvement with Gnarls Barkley, Fox decided to interpret the songs himself. The pre-release single Alles neu was released in August 2008 and already showed the innovative combination of orchestral elements with modern beats that characterizes the entire album.

The success of Stadtaffe was also reflected in awards: Fox received several Echos in 2009, including the Echo Critics’ Award and the award for best hip-hop/Urban artist. He also won the Bundesvision Song Contest 2009 with his third single release Schwarz zu blau, having already won this competition with Seeed in 2006.

Further artistic projects and return to Seeed

After the huge success of Stadtaffe, Peter Fox announced in 2009 that he was ending his solo career in order to devote himself fully to Seeed again. This led to misunderstandings among the public, who believed that he was retiring because of his sudden fame. However, Fox had planned to release only one solo album from the beginning. In 2012, he released the album Seeed together with Seeed, which was also very successful.

In 2019, he returned to the big stage with the release of the Seeed album BAM BAM and a subsequent tour. In the meantime, he has also worked as a duo partner with Sway Clarke in the Ricky Dietz project and has been involved in various musical collaborations, including the 2020 single Lambo Lambo by KitschKrieg and Trettmann.

In 2022, he released the single Zukunft Pink, followed by other solo projects such as the single Vergessen wie and the album Love Songs in 2023, which immediately reached number 1 in the German charts.
