Michael Holm, born on July 29, 1943 in Stettin, Pomerania, is a German pop singer. pop singer, composerlyricist, musician and music producer. Holm’s musical career began at a young age. He learned the flute and harpsichord in his family, where music played a major role. He discovered his passion for pop music at an early age and formed his first band at the age of 15.

The breakthrough with “Mendocino”

The first releases followed in the 1960s, including cover versions of well-known pop songs. Holm’s real breakthrough came in 1969 with the song “Mendocino”. The song, a German version of Sir Douglas Alexander’s hit of the same name, became a number one hit in Germany and catapulted Holm into the limelight.

The 1970s: pop star and lyrical success

Versatility and new projects

The 1980s brought a new direction for Holm. In addition to pop music, he devoted himself increasingly to the new age project “Cusco”, with which he enjoyed worldwide success and sold millions of albums, particularly in the USA and Asia.

As a producer, he was responsible for the German cult band Guildo Horn, among others, and once again proved his versatility in the world of music.

Michael Holm celebrated an impressive anniversary with his 80th birthday in 2023. A major concert paid tribute to his long and successful career.

Musicians and singers

In the 1960s, Michael Holm released several songs together with Albert Schützenberger under the pseudonym “Die Missouris”. In the 1970s, Holm worked closely with the Italian musician and producer Giorgio Moroder, who was involved in the hits “Mendocino” and “Barefoot in the Rain”. Holm wrote several songs for the Greek pop singer Vicky Leandros, including “Ich fang’ die Sonne ein” and “Theo, wir fahr’n nach Lodz”.

Holm also composed several hit songs for Wencke Myhre, such as “Begegnung” and “Die schönsten Stunden des Lebens”. The title “Arizona Man” was also composed by Holm for Mary Roos produced by Holm. Holm also worked with music producer Ralph Siegel. With him he wrote 1972 for Rex Gildo the hit “Fiesta Mexicana”. In the 1990s, he produced Guildo Horn ‘s successful album “Danke” and thus contributed to the renaissance of the German pop song.

Producer and songwriter

In the 1980s, Michael Holm worked with star producer Dieter Bohlen and produced the albums “Traumzeit” and “Nachts”, among others. The Romanian musician and producer Michael Cretu co-authored Holm’s hit “Irgendwann wird die Sonne wieder scheinen”. The well-known pop composer and producer Ralph Siegel worked with Holm on some of his later hits.

Michael Holm has toured with American singer Peggy March several times in recent years. The pop singer Ireen Sheer was also part of Holm’s “Schlagerlegenden” tours. Singer and actress Lena Valaitis was also part of the line-up for these tours. Another artist who went on tour with Holm was the British singer Graham Bonney.
