Turquoise sweaters, unconventional dance steps, multifunctional keyboards keyboards<\/a><\/span><\/strong> and lots of humor – that’s how Da\u00f0i & Gagnamagni\u00f0 will win hearts at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.<\/p>\n\n

Da\u00f0i Freyr P\u00e9tursson is the frontman of this quirky band. Born in Reykjav\u00edk in 1992, he spent a large part of his early childhood in Denmark before returning to Iceland with his family at the age of nine, where he played in a rock cover band with his school friends. But he soon swapped the riffs of Cream and Nirvana for electronic instruments<\/g><\/g><\/g> and founded the electropop band RetRoBot<\/g> in 2012. In 2012, the year he graduated from school, he won the prestigious Icelandic young talent competition M\u00fas\u00edktilraunir with the band, following in the footsteps of Agent Fresco, Of Monsters And Men and Samaris. Da\u00f0i himself is voted best electronic musician of the year. <\/p>\n\n

Da\u00f0i moved to Berlin<\/strong> in 2014, where he completed his studies in music management and audio production four years later and laid the foundations for his subsequent solo career. For his first participation in the Icelandic ESC preliminary competition S\u00f6ngvakeppnin, he gathers friends and family (including his wife \u00c1rn\u00fd Fj\u00f3la \u00c1smundsd\u00f3ttir and his sister Sigr\u00fan Birna P\u00e9tursd\u00f3ttir) for a joint performance under the banner Gagnamagni\u00f0. <\/p>\n\n

In 2017, their song “Is This Love?”<\/strong> was defeated by the competition. In 2020, things went much better in the same constellation and with the number “Think About Things”<\/g>. The track, which they created themselves in their home studio in Berlin, collects several million streams and will compete for Iceland<\/g> in the Eurovision Song Contest<\/g>. The Covid-19 pandemic initially prevented this and the event was canceled. <\/p>\n\n

Da\u00f0i & Gagnamagni\u00f0 get another chance at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam<\/strong> – but they are once again plagued by bad luck: Due to a positive corona test result for band member J\u00f3hann Sigur\u00f0ur J\u00f3hannsson<\/strong>, the band withdrew their live performance. Instead, a recording of the rehearsal was shown in the semi-final and final. Despite the competitive disadvantage, Da\u00f0i og Gagnamagni\u00f0 came fourth<\/g> in Rotterdam and celebrated in their hotel room. <\/p>\n\n
