He was a Yugoslavian <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/musiknerd.org\/en\/music-genre\/schlager\/\" title=\"Schlager\">\n    <strong>pop singer<\/strong>\n  <\/a>\n<\/span> and died on March 9, 2000 in Rijeka, Croatia.  He began his musical career by studying at the conservatory in Zagreb, where he played various instruments such as <strong>\n  <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/musiknerd.org\/musikinstrumente\/klavier\/\" title=\"Piano\">piano<\/a>\n  <\/span>\n<\/strong>, <strong>\n  <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/musiknerd.org\/musikinstrumente\/saxophon\/\" title=\"Saxophone\">saxophone<\/a>\n  <\/span>\n<\/strong>, <strong>\n  <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/musiknerd.org\/musikinstrumente\/klarinette\/\" title=\"Clarinet\">clarinet<\/a>\n  <\/span>\n<\/strong>, <strong>\n  <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/musiknerd.org\/musikinstrumente\/floete\/\" title=\"Flute\">flute<\/a>\n  <\/span>\n<\/strong> and bass violin. During his studies, he also worked as a singer in the dance orchestra of Radio Zagreb. In the following years, he released around 100 records with Jugoton and became one of the most successful Yugoslavian pop stars. From 1977, he also recorded for the Czechoslovakian record company Supraphon and expanded his audience beyond the country&#8217;s borders.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>International success and recognition<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>His breakthrough in Germany came in 1958 with the single <strong>&#8220;Morgen&#8221;,<\/strong> produced by <strong>Bert Kaempfert<\/strong>. The song became a worldwide success and sold over a million copies in Germany alone. Robi\u0107 appeared in renowned shows such as the Perry Como Show and the Ed Sullivan Show and received recognition for his unique interpretation of international hits.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Later years and legacy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>After a series of successes in the 1960s, Robi\u0107 retired from the international music business in the 1970s and settled in Croatia. He continued to release music for the Yugoslavian market. He was honorary chairman of the Croatian Musicians&#8217; Union until his death in 2000.
